Great-Grandmother’s Old Fashioned Pound Cake Recipe (1938)

If you are on a diet do not bake this one because you will want more than one piece.

I can still smell the glorious aroma coming from my Grandmother’s kitchen as the soft
country breeze perfumed the backyard with the pound cake fragrance where we played.
We knew Grandmother would be calling us soon for a very special treat---a piece of her pound cake.
If only I had a time machine---to visit her once again.

1 pound of cake flour
1 pound of butter
1 pound of granulated sugar
1 dozen eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla flavoring or any other
flavoring one might desire.

Separate the egg yolks from the whites into bowls.
Cream butter and sugar together, add beaten egg yolks to
butter and sugar mixture, and stir well. (Put some elbow grease into the stirring)
Add flour in small quantities until it is all used. Add beaten egg whites and desired
flavoring.

Bake in slow (300 Degrees) oven for 1 ½ to 2 hours.

Sometimes she added pecans from the trees grown on the farm and the fresh taste of the nuts were heavenly.
